Gonorrhoea Diagnosis : Read More
If you think that you have got gonorrhoea or any other sexually transmitted infection (STI), you need to get tested without any delay. Early diagnosis and treatment reduces the risk of any complications such as infection spreading to testicles or pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) in women.
You can get tested within a few days of having sex or even when you do not have symptoms, but you may be asked to wait for up to one week.
Men
A swab of the discharge from the tip of the penis will be taken, or you may be asked to provide a urine sample.
Women
A swab may be taken from the vagina or the cervix (entrance to the womb) at the time of internal examination. In some cases, a swab of discharge from the urethra ( the tube through which urine is passed out) may be collected.
Rectum and Eyes
A swab from the rectum or a sample of eye discharge may be collected for testing in case of rectal and eye infections respectively.
