Menopause Complications: Read More

Menopause Complications: Read More

Post menopause, the risks for certain medical conditions increases:
  • Heart diseases: With the declining oestrogen levels, there is an increase in the risks for cardiovascular diseases.
  • Osteoporosis : Bone density decreases at a rapid rate after menopause. Osteoporosis in postmenopausal women makes them more vulnerable to fractures of wrists, hips or spine.
  • Urinary incontinence: Involuntary urination may occur owing to loss of elasticity of the vaginal and urethral muscles. Kegel exercises and pelvic floor muscle strengthening and the use of vaginal oestrogen topically might help to alleviate the symptoms of urinary incontinence.
  • Sex: The loss of elasticity in the vagina along with dryness could lead to painful discomfort during sexual intercourse. Vaginal moisturizers and lubricants can be helpful. Sometimes vaginal oestrogen treatment is recommended.
Healthy lifestyle after menopause
Certain lifestyle changes may be helpful in easing the symptoms of menopause. One can adopt the following:
  • Healthy Diet: Balanced diet with leafy vegetables, whole grains and nuts will keep the body healthy and may help one avoid hot flashes. Alcohol and caffeine consumption must be limited. Soy can assist in relieving symptoms of hot flashes.
  • Stop Smoking: Quit smoking, if you smoke. Smoking could trigger hot flashes.
  • Exercise: Regular exercises will help you to strengthen the bones and keep the weight down.
Red Flags
Any bleeding after menopause is abnormal and even little spotting is unusual. Medical attention is a must in such scenarios.
